INSPIRED BY THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE MOVEMENT
TechBoston Academy 10th Grade History Department Presents
Harlem Renaissance Art Exhibition- A Celebration of Black Lives, Movement, Music & Culture From the 18th Century- 21st Century
Background Information: The Harlem Renaissance was a significant social and cultural movement, which took place in the 1920s and 1930s following the Great Migration during which thousands of Africa-Americans left the south and moved north and west. The result was the flourishing of art, music and literature that reflected the history and experience of the African-American.
The artistic, literary and musical contributions of Harlem Renaissance artists continue to serve as an inspiration for today’s artists. Through a mixed media exhibition, our students will have the opportunity to display the diversity, beauty, and the power of artwork, writing, music, and poetry created by people of African-American descent. In addition, this youth-led exhibition, will not only showcase the political movements that led up to the 21st century, but the history, success, and struggles of individuals within the African diaspora.
